Anyone who is following the long benchmark javascript race between browser engines probably has noticed that for a first time since these particular records began mozilla's engine has crossed the daily finish line faster than one of the competition. Today Jaeger + Trace monkey cross breed is 1ms faster on the v8bench circuit.
So is it fast enough? No. 1ms is probably within the error range of the measurements, and even if it is not, there is that pesky sprinter V8. Let's not forget that these are artificial benchmarks, so your eventual experience may vary.
Does it matter? Yes. It shows progress. If the trend persists, the monkey will eventually outrace the v8. But that, in my opinion, is secondary to the promise that the mozilla engine shows for long running applications. Sever side javascript looks better every day.
