Well, things start to get a comic appeal. Sony infringes the copyright of a LGPL software to create their rootkit, which allegedly is used to protect its property, read music they distribute, but in reality stops you using your iPod, which in turn Apple has made to work only with their own service - iTunes.
Noodles. I won't even go further. It is just ugly. Just rephrase it and you'll get the outline of a Z-rated gangster movie. You've got the hustlers, you've got the hard men, you've got the "my patch".
Tho read the whole shebang just go to dewinter or slashdot. Sit back and enjoy.
Update:
The stuff gets weirder and weirder. Just read Muzzy's list. A short summary - Sy distributed a malware, otherwise known as a rootkit, otherwise known a DRM software, infringing the copyright of a bunch of GPLed and LGPLed libraries and apps. The malware is using magic lists, (this is a guess), to prevent other programs to "infringe" on their copyrights. A known case is iTunes.
Oh yes, apparently the software 'phones home'. To get covers, album art and to leave a track that a CD with an id has been played somewhere.
Now. How can a giant, like Sony be trusted to produce or distribute copyrighted material, when they have no respect to others' intelectual property. And just to expand this further - can you trust the watchdogs (like RIAA) to protect your interests, when their majour supporters and funders are pirates. So is it a case of Everyone but us is a pirate, because us not pirates, cause us says it first?
